High street highlighters.

You may have known already or not, that I don’t own anything but high street, I’ve never really had the chance to own anything high end so I make do with the high street brands available and I can’t fault them for the price and quality!

In this blog I’m going to write about the four highlighters I own and the brushes I have used to apply them and which ones give the better effect.

Im going to start of with the brushes..

brushesFrom left to right.. we have a small ‘oval’ brush because it is a lot harder than the other  brushes it tends to gather more product making the highlighter appear more visible on your skin. Then your typical fan brush, personally I’m not a ‘fan’ it doesn’t seem to pick up enough product for me or give me the best affect and this is where the blushers brush comes in. on my photos i have none of the product shown from the blusher brush so its not working out as I had hoped BUT from a personal perspective it has worked better than the fan brush again I think its because it seem a bit harder so picks up some more product?

brushes oval – Ebay, Fan- spectrum, blusher – spectrum (I’m aware they need cleaning I’m waiting to find time to do a blog on that!)

So highlighters if this isn’t one of your top favourite things to apply to your face I’m not sure what is I cannot shout enough about how different a highlighter can make you look. I wasn’t for it at the beginning and now I cannot live without it!

all1we have New look baked highlight powder £6.99 (new look), MUA strobe & glow highlight it, £4.00 (super drug),  Glow commotion £3.50 (thecosmeticbox) Technic get gorgeous £2.50 (thecosmeticbox)

Lets start with New look, Not a lot of people are familiar with new looks make-up range, I had actually brought this when it has first come into the stores, this shade in particular seems to be out of stock all the time, I feel lucky to have it especially as they had none when I went in and I found it hidden, felt like a treasure hunt.

The packaging on this is pretty simple, but also I find eye catching personally I like to see the products through the casing because I don’t always feel like I have to open it to try. The packaging is clear on what is is, who from and what is does. It is dermatologically tested and parabeen free, with a shelf live of 18 months.

Pictures never do highlighters that much justice this being the most expensive one I have at only £6.99 it is pigmented, you don’t have to press down hard to get much product. On the swatches the first swatch (if you can see it) is my finger, personally always find that my finger give a better look, second is the oval brush not much has been picked up and you cant really see it and then you have the fan brush, you can see it on this picture, I find with a fan brush it tends to cover a bigger area but the appearance is less.

out of 10 i would give it an 7/10.

Secondly MUA, everyone goes crazy for MUA which is a cosmetic brand that has a contact in the UK with super drug only so you cannot buy it anywhere else others than Superdrug and MUA website. There is two parts to this highlighter you have the powder at the top and a cream at the bottom, I haven’t shown the cream because its a mess. Not as pigmented as the powder but easier to apply and best applied with your finger.

For the price of this highlighter I feel as though you get a lot more for your money, not only do you get a cream and powder but a compact mirror, and the packaging is cute. its a rose gold top with the name of the company, and what the highlighter is. It says ‘A multi-formual compact, ideal for effortless highlighting, the cream and powder formulas in a light, luminescent shimmer allow for a perfect strobe & glow, iridescent look’. I suppose its all true!

On these pictures you can see how pigmented the highlighter is! Im sure you could see it from space. This time all 3 brushes seemed to have picked up the product, this time I prefer the look on the oval brush just because it seems to have picked up a lot more product and I love a good highlight. I also find with this one that I don’t need to build up the product so there is not much wastage.

I give this highlighter a 9/10

Thirdly W7 Glow commotion. This is becoming a new favourite its a MASSIVE shame that it hasn’t shown on the photo. This highlighter has more purposes than to make your highlight look popping, it also can be used as a shimmer and eyeshadow. W7 is not a well known brand and I’m not sure why because I LOVE there products especially for the price.

The glow commotion is more of a golden colour (bit like my skin, hence why I’m sure it didn’t show), which makes it different from the rest that are a pinky white colour and I think this is why I like it and I think because its more of a golden colour it doesn’t show up as much as the others and its more subtle, so for someone who is just getting into highlighter or wants a more natural look this may be a better option.

So I will try and talk about the brushes but as you can see they haven’t shown up on this photo much, again I find my finger better on this one than the brushes because it looks more natural and smoother and I tend to pick up more product. With the oval brush I found it picks up to much products and you end up with highlighter everywhere. The fan brush again is not my fav, because it doesn’t seem to pick up anything and doesn’t show much at all, tends to spread more over your face then where you want it. shelf life 18 months.

I rate this one a 6/10

Finally, Technic get gorgeous, My mum loves this one, I think purely for the fact is is cheap and its still half decent, not to pigmented so doesn’t over do it. Not a lot of people have heard of technic and the ones who don’t kinda turn there nose up, BUT you don’t know what your missing, it is SO SO affordable, great for the younger kids getting into it, or the older generation who has sense of not spending ££.

Again this product is in the see through casing which I love, it also has a cute pattern to it which seems to make it different from the others and I think works great because you get more? if that makes sense. This one is also great as it has a self life of 36 months so much more than the others, so its going to be usable for longer. I just personally think its cute

Again you can’t really see this one as good a it is in real life, but you can see it better than the glow commotion! It has the same colour as New look and MUA, but has more of a subtle colour to it, its not in your face but it shows up lovely and give a great natural finish. Again I think its great for probably someone who’s starting out in make-up or someone wanting natural. The finger application is one again my favourite I think it just looks better for a better coverage, the fan brush didn’t pick this one up, which could be down to it being un level? but the oval brush didn’t seem to do much either.

I rate this one a 8/10 for the price and the quality i think its deserves to be up there.

De’Lanci

I’m not so sure how many people know about the brand of De’Lanci if you don’t then you need to. I heard about the brand through my beauty groups (I think I’m apart of about 10+) and for only what? £12.95 I thought I would try them.. I was not disappointed and now have found my favourite eyeshadow brand!

So what is De’Lanci? From what i am aware De’Lanci is a Chinese brand.. you can buy it from either amazon or Alixpress, personally I would suggest amazon purely because it takes about 2 days to arrive (or so mine did) which is why I cannot fault them!

The brand is always compared to Morphe But personally I wouldn’t really know as I’m all about the high street life, but I wouldn’t mind trying it. But because its been compared to Morphe and is cheaper everyone is going crazy for it!

Im not so sure how they go about naming there palettes but I’m pretty sure its about like morphs? Anyway as you can see straight away how eye catching each palette is and for someone who doesn’t wear your bright colours I fell in love with the pink one (Left) the pigments are amazing, they are easy to use, not a lot of fall out, you only need a small amount and there is 35 eyeshadows to one palette and you always get a mixture of mattes, light, darks and glitters!

As you can see from my swatches that all I needed was one small swipe over each colour to get a pigmented result, I also find that they tend to last a very long time! And I don’t use a primer so its a win, win for me. They are also easy to get off but also easy to blend, you don’t have to sit there blending to achieve the perfect look, and because they have so many colours you don’t need to buy thousands of palettes there all in one!

These photos (thank god for cameras) show what i mean about pigmented. swiped over the top layer not even hard and thats the results!

17431829_10212373015258730_1351126234_oAs you can probably tell I’m not one for taking a ‘selfie’ but I couldn’t resist because I’m actually in love with these palettes! If you love make-up as much as me or decide you want to be more create with shades etc go over and buy them! I will post the link below!

They are £12.95 each and you can choose which delivery you like I normally just go for the cheapest and the last one i brought said 3-5 days or something and came in 1 I was supper impressed!

baby wipes vs micellar water!

Micellar water Vs Baby wipes

Over tha past couple of days i have see SO much about people wanting to know the best brand of baby wipes to take their make up off with. WHY? I won’t lie i also used to do it but i think its because i was just pure lazy!

Recently on a beauty page I’m apart of i saw a big hype for Micellar water, personally i hadn’t heard of it myself so decide to try the garnier one that was sold in the primark near me when they first opened, ever since i have not gone back to a make-up wipe ill tell you why!

Baby wipes..

They are called baby wipes for the simple fact they are used for a babies bums. They have no other purpose (but they are good at using for cleaning up). For someone who suffered badly with ache I tried so much to make sure that my skin was clean after using make-up at  the time I didn’t wear make-up where i could get away with it because of the acne.

So I used a baby wipes, so many people i knew used them and had no problems, they are  sensitive for a babies bum right? so why not good enough for your face?.

I noticed after using a baby wipe i got MORE spots than normal, I would have dry skin, started flaking, I would feel irritated and not clean. What I found was that baby wipes don’t even take half your make up off. You think that because the wipes clean and appears that nothing else is coming off you’r face that that’s all the make up off? your wrong! It doesn’t take all your make up off instead it pushes your make up into your skin clogging your pores.

This is the baby wipe after coming off all clean and me thinking nothing was left..

as you can see it looks as though everything is off right? You can see the white part of the baby wipe?

Micellar water.

So lets move onto the micellar water like I mentioned I hadn’t heard of it all I saw was it was cheaper in primark than in places such as boots, so as you do (if your like me and love spending money) in the basket it went. I tried it and what I found was more make up  appearing on the cotton pad then what was appearing on the baby wipes so i instantly thought maybe I’m wearing more make up than normal do? not that my routine changed?

I continued to use it for a while and then ran out and had to purchase it again but this time I decided to used primarks own brand. Thought nothing of it… but this one was £1 and SO much better it has like a little oil in it and it helped to get more make-up of my skin and it seemed easier to use, It made my skin feel so clean afterwards, yano when you kinda have that sigh of relief that your poor skin can breath again!

So I continued using this and to my surprise, my acne has started to clear up to this day i get what one spot every so often? compared to my face being full of them. So I decided seen as everyone is loving using baby wipes on there face I will show you what a baby wipe is actually taking off your face (see above) and what happens when I take a cotton pad with micellar water on and use them AFTER i use the baby wipe. (the baby wipe was completely clean when i decided it had tale off my make up). This is what the cotton pad looked like after going over my face again…

That is two cotton pads still full of make-up.. you thought your face was clean? think again. Micellar water is £1 in primark you need it in your life!
